Nikon has officially introduced the COOLPIX P1100, the newest model in its popular superzoom compact camera lineup. This camera builds on the success of the COOLPIX P1000, retaining its powerful 125x optical zoom lens, which provides a focal length range of 24-3000mm (35mm equivalent). For those needing even more reach, the Dynamic Fine Zoom feature extends the digital zoom up to 250x, equivalent to an astonishing 6000mm. At the heart of the COOLPIX P1100 is a 16MP backside-illuminated CMOS sensor combined with an f/2.8 NIKKOR lens. Due to updates in the Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA) stabilization testing standards, the image stabilization rating has been reduced from 5.0 to 4.0 stops. Despite this change, Nikon assures that the actual performance remains consistent with the previous model. The built-in flash also has a slightly reduced guide number, decreasing from 16m to 12m, which may affect performance in low-light flash photography.
The Nikon COOLPIX P1100 will be available in late February with a retail price of $1,099, a $100 increase compared to the P1000’s launch price in 2018. This price reflects the new features and technological advancements included in the P1100.
