Leaked Image of Sony FE 400-800mm f/6.3-8 G OSS Lens

Leaked images of Sony’s upcoming “FE 400-800mm F6.3-8 G OSS” lens have surfaced on SonyAlphaRumors, showcasing the entire lens body. The design bears a strong resemblance to the existing “FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS,” suggesting Sony is maintaining a similar aesthetic and form factor. However, reports indicate that the new 400-800mm lens is slightly larger and heavier than the 200-600mm, with an estimated weight of around 2.5kg.
Sony is rumored to unveil the “FE 400-800mm F6.3-8 G OSS” alongside the “16mm F1.8 G” in February 2025, likely on February 26th, ahead of the CP+2025 event. The size of the new lens appears to be relatively compact for a zoom lens reaching 800mm at f/8, and its weight remains within a reasonable range compared to the 2115g “FE 200-600mm.” This suggests that handheld use should still be feasible.
Despite its similarity to the 200-600mm, subtle differences in the barrel near the mount confirm that this is a distinct model. While it is unclear whether the lens features an internal zoom mechanism or an extending barrel, initial impressions suggest it may be an internal zoom. If Sony has managed to maintain a compact size while achieving an internal zoom, it would be an impressive engineering feat.
