Nikon Z50 II Mirrorless Camera Officially Announced

Nikon has officially announced the Z50 II, the successor to its popular Z50 mirrorless camera, bringing significant updates while retaining its compact, DSLR-style design. With a 20.9MP APS-C sensor, the same as the original Z50, the new model is powered by Nikon’s latest Expeed 7 processor, delivering substantial performance enhancements.

Advanced Autofocus Capabilities

One of the most notable upgrades is the Z50 II’s autofocus system, which now matches the sophistication of Nikon’s professional Z8 and Z9 models. The camera offers nine subject detection options, including animals, vehicles, and people, alongside 3D tracking and custom-sized autofocus areas for greater precision. Additionally, a smarter AF-A mode simplifies the process by automatically selecting the optimal focus type. A new Product Review mode ensures smooth transitions between focusing on objects and people, ideal for vloggers and content creators.

Enhanced Speed and Video Features

The Z50 II brings improvements for action photography, offering High-Speed Frame Capture+ modes at 15fps or 30fps (JPEG only), with a one-second pre-capture feature to ensure you never miss a moment. Video recording sees a boost with oversampled 4K footage up to 30fps from a 5.6K source, promising sharper and more detailed videos.

Nikon Cloud Integration and Customization

A standout feature is the Z50 II’s integration with Nikon Cloud, allowing users to upload images and access online storage directly from the camera. It also supports custom Picture Profiles, enabling photographers to apply personalized color profiles shared within the Nikon Cloud community. Accessing these profiles is made simple with a dedicated Picture Profile button.

Refined Design and Usability

Nikon has improved the Z50 II’s handling with an updated EVF that’s twice as bright as its predecessor, a larger 3.2-inch vari-angle touchscreen with enhanced flexibility, and a more substantial hand grip for comfortable use. It remains the only series in Nikon’s mirrorless lineup to include a built-in flash.

Pricing and Availability

The Nikon Z50 II is priced at $965.95 / £849 for the body only, $1,096.95 / £999 with the 16-50mm lens, or $1,346.95 / £1,199 for a twin-lens kit with the 50-250mm lens. In Australia, it is available with the 18-140mm lens for AU$2,279. Preorders are open now, with shipping starting at the end of November.

The Z50 II builds on its predecessor’s success, combining advanced features, ease of use, and affordability for hobbyists and enthusiasts alike.
