Canon EOS R1 & EOS R5 Mark II Coming for Summer Olympics 2024

Canon enthusiasts eagerly await the unveiling of two highly anticipated models, the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II, as rumors surrounding their announcement and release dates circulate within the community. Speculations suggest that Canon plans to announce these groundbreaking cameras in either April or May, with availability for select professional photographers at major events in June or July. However, they won’t be accessible to the general public for purchase until later, likely in the latter half of the third quarter or early in the fourth quarter, potentially starting in late August at the earliest.

Following the successful strategy employed during the EOS R3 launch, Canon intends to officially introduce the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II by the end of April or early May, aiming to garner feedback from working photographers. This approach serves to build excitement and anticipation among users.

It’s anticipated that consumer availability for both cameras won’t occur until after Euro 2024 and the Summer Olympic Games, potentially placing their release in late Q3 or Q4 of the year.

While there’s speculation about the EOS R1 currently undergoing testing by select photographers, CP+ attendees might not witness any significant EOS-related announcements. However, reports indicate a possible “late spring” announcement for both cameras, followed by a development period leading up to their release, likely post-Summer Olympics.

Given the supply shortages experienced during the EOS R5 release, it’s probable that the period between announcement and release will be extended. However, the reliability of this information remains uncertain, urging users to exercise caution before making decisions about upgrading their existing gear.

In summary, while excitement brews over the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II, CP+ attendees may not witness major EOS-related reveals, but attention remains on potential announcements regarding RF lenses.
